A retired couple say they may have to move out of their home now that their bin chute will be blocked up. Lucy Anderson Jones, 62, lives in a maisonette with her husband in Amberley Drive, Bognor, as a leaseholder. The couple live on the third floor of the building in their ex-council property.
On April 9, Ms Anderson Jones received a letter from Arun District Council telling them that their communal bin chute would be blocked up five days later. The works will leave them with no choice but to carry their rubbish down flights of concrete stairs to a new bin area. Ms Anderson Jones and her husband were shocked at the news and are battling to have the decision reversed.

Ms Anderson Jones’s husband, 71, said: “At the top floor there’s a chute that’s valuable to residents that goes directly into a bin. “The bin has been in operation since the building was built.

” A spokeswoman for Arun District Council said: “The work that is being done to the bin store at Amberly Drive is necessary for safety reasons, in line with fire risk assessment recommendations. “The work that has started is to the hard standing area required for the placement of the shared bins. “The chute will not be decommissioned immediately.
“The new arrangements will also provide recycling for all – first floor as well as the ground floor flats as well as more bin space which is much needed at this site. “We know that one of the residents has mentioned that the stairs are slippery and we will look at what can be done to address this issue so that those using those stairs can do so safely.” Two councillors have also been out to view the site.
