DENTON — The Caroline County Commissioners conducted the first reading for an emergency bill eliminating Planning Commission term limits. This emergency bill is similar to one recently passed by the county commissioners, which eliminated term limits for the Board of Zoning Appeals. The bill was presented because the Planing Commission believes by the time its members gain knowledge of all county rules, they have termed out.
“It basically just returns the discretion to the commissioners whether to reappoint someone to a third term or not as opposed to limiting our ability to reappoint?” County Commission President Travis Breeding asked. “Exactly,” County Attorney Stewart Barroll answered. The bill will have its second reading and public hearing period at the May 13 County Commissioners meeting.
