This call is in line with the theme of this year’s state-level ‘World Thinking Day 2025 – Our Story: Reflecting the Symbolism and Values of our Movement’.In this regard, Girl Guides Association of Malaysia Sarawak branch president Dato Dayang Morliah Awang Daud said through Girl Guides activities, the young women could be equipped with the basic, but important skills.“We, at the leadership level, will strive to plan programmes that are set to benefit the young ones besides implementing activities set by the association.
“I believe that this effort can better shape women to have more calibre, and also to become wiser and more confident,” she said in a statement issued by the Information Department yesterday, in connection with Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, also Girl Guides Sarawak’s patron, officiating at the state-level event here.Dayang Morliah added: “Although Girl Guides’ activities seem simple and ordinary, they are actually very important when facing unexpected situations such as accidents or disasters.”At the event yesterday, the activities included flag-raising, lighting the candles and cake-cutting ceremonies, the singing of Girl Guides songs, and also the presentation of the Memorial Day Fund.
Fauziah symbolically lit the candles to commemorate the services of the founder of the Girl Guides Association, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, as well as the establishment of the Girl Guides movement at the international level.The World Thinking Day is observed on Feb 22 every year. This celebration began in 1932 in Poland and has since been celebrated every year with a specific theme set by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
