T. Mensah, a respected statesman and longtime member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), died on October, 2023, in South Africa at age 77. His wife’s tearful moment touched many on social media, where condolences and words of support poured in.



E.T. Mensah left a significant legacy in Ghanaian politics.

He served as Minister for Youth and Sports under President Jerry Rawlings from 1992 to 2001. Before that, he was the longest-serving Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), overseeing the city’s affairs from the PNDC era through Ghana’s democratic transition. From 1996 to 2016, Mensah represented Ningo-Prampram in Parliament.

Over his two decades as an MP, he held key leadership roles including Minority Chief Whip (2001–2009) and Majority Chief Whip (2009–2013) during the NDC’s time in power.
