The famous Boat Race between Cambridge University and Oxford University is happening on Sunday, April 13 on the River Thames in London.
It is one of the world’s oldest and most famous sporting events, which sees two of Britain’s most prestigious universities fight it out to win. Last year, Cambridge won in both the men's and women's race, and they will hope to retain their title once again this year. The women’s race begins at 1.
21pm and the men’s begins at 2.21pm. Fan zones will be set up in the capital so people can watch it live for free.

(Image: Getty Images - AFP/Henry Nicholls) These include the Hammersmith fan zone, in Furnivall Gardens, which is open from 11am until 5pm. The park will have a giant screen for people to watch the BBC coverage, as well as great access to the river to watch the crews go by.
There will also be street food and refreshments on offer. The Fulham fan zone, based at Fulham Pier and Bishops Park, is also free to enter and is open from 11am until 5pm. Fulham Pier is one of London’s new riverside destinations set to open later this year.
However just for the boat race, they will be opening its new food hall and riverside market. As well as 14 screens to view BBC’s coverage, there will be live music, pop-ups and delicious street food for all of the family. Fulham Brass Band will also be performing throughout the day at 11.

This fan zone is located near the start of the race. For those who aren’t travelling to the event, they can enjoy coverage from the comfort of their own home. Viewers can sign up for a watch party pack that has everything they need to create an unforgettable race day experience.
The pack includes puzzles, boat-inspired cocktail recipes, trivia, invitations and much more. Otherwise, people can watch coverage on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and on the BBC sport website from 12.20pm.
The course itself, known as the championship course, is four miles long. It goes between Putney and Mortlake on the River Thames in South London. It begins at the University Stone, set on the towpath on Putney embankment.
The race starts from two stake boats which are moored so that competitors' bows are in line with the University Stone. Along the route, boats will pass Craven Cottage - home to Fulham FC - Hammersmith Bridge, Chiswick Eyot and Barnes Bridge. The finish is just before Chiswick Bridge, and is marked by the University Boat Race Stone on the Surrey Bank and a post in the river.
