Sunrisers Hyderabad have been in poor form in IPL 2025, losing five out of seven matches so far. While experts feel SRH are out of the playoffs race, here's how they can still qualify.

Only two wins from seven matches so far in the Indian Premier League 2025, time is running out for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as far as the race for the playoffs is concerned. SRH finished second in the table last season with eight wins from 14 matches and just five losses. They eventually reached the final, where they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders.

This season, SRH have already lost five matches at the halfway point of the league season and sit in the ninth spot, only above Chennai Super Kings, who are in equally bad shape. The big question here is: Are Sunrisers out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race? Cricket experts Cheteshwar Pujara, Sanjay Bangar and Abhinav Mukund feel it’s over for SRH in IPL 2025. They shared their views on a show on ESPNCricinfo and most of the fans would agree.

Technically, though, SRH are still alive in the race. Over the years, we have seen that winning eight matches and scoring 16 points more often than not guarantees qualification to the playoffs in the IPL. Even seven wins and 14 points at times are enough, however, Net Run Rate (NRR) becomes an important factor in such cases.

This only indicates that SRH are pretty much still the master of their own fortunes. Winning six out of the remaining seven games should be enough to reach the playoffs. Winning five out of the last seven matches will help them get to 14 points, which can also prove to be enough if there’s a lot of traffic around the third and fourth spots.

In IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru qualified for the playoffs with just 14 points and by finishing fourth in the points table. In fact, RCB won their last six matches in a row to reach the playoffs. Something that SRH can also pull off.

However, for that, SRH will need to collect at least five wins from here and improve their NRR, which is currently -1.217.
