Bryce Garnhart appeared to have a season-opening Late Model win Friday night at Davenport Speedway. Garnhart led all 25 laps of the feature and crossed seven seconds ahead of anybody else. However, Garnhart’s machine weighed in 15-pounds light in post-race inspection, giving the win to second-place finisher Andy Nezworski, who started the race in the fourth row.
Pole-sitter Jake Morris ended up third. Garnhart was not the only driver to miss the setup on a cool night at the track. A number of drivers were dinged with infractions in the tech area.
Kyle Montgomery took the lead on Lap 5 in the Modified feature and never gave it back. Pole-sitter Kaily Sample led early, but eventually Montgomery surged in front. Logan Veloz and Charlie Mohr made late pushes for the lead, but settled for second and third.
Tony Olson led nearly all 15 laps of the SportMod feature. The only problem was a handful of restarts that kept reshuffling the deck. Cole Suckow came up through the pack to finish second, but was not able to keep Olson from the checkers.
The Street Stocks feature was hotly contested deep into the 15-lap race. Cary Brown was in front for a good chunk of it, but started to fade in the final laps. Blake Woodruff made the pass to the front on Lap 12 and never looked back for the win.
Brown ended up fourth behind Rob Nylin and Jesse Owen. In the Hobby Stocks feature, Randy LaMar was 10th after one lap, but it did not matter. He needed just four laps to drive to the front and stayed there until the checkered flag flew.
Runner-up honors went to Nick Proehl. Shawn McDermott won the 12-lap 6-Cylinder feature despite starting sixth. Jason Rhoads led early and Dustin Forbes surged late, but McDermott held on.
Racing resumes on Friday at 7 p.m., with the Mod Lites making their season debut.
