A father and daughter have attended their first shout together. Jason and Sophie Collins, from Angmering, are volunteer crew members at Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboat Station. They were called to their first rescue together on April 11 at 2.
20pm, when HM Coastguard asked them to help a sinking jet ski near Littlehampton Harbour. Jason joined the Littlehampton RNLI crew in 2017, with Sophie following in August last year. Jason said: "It was great to be able to go on a service call with Sophie.
"She has watched me complete my crew training and enjoy my time at the RNLI, and having been keen to join up since she was about 14, is now excited to have started her RNLI journey." Sophie added: "I've been waiting for this moment – when both of us could work together to rescue and keep people safe at sea – for years. "When dad's pager would go off, I always wanted to go too, and now I can.
" The father and daughter duo, along with fellow crew member Warren Marden and helm Mark Nicholls, were on the Ray of Hope lifeboat when they attended their rescue. The jet ski was already being towed by Littlehampton Harbour Board, so the lifeboat crew shadowed both vessels safely back to the harbour. Jason and Sophie are not the only family connections at Littlehampton RNLI, with brothers Richard and Steve Howlett, and Mark and James Nicholls, also volunteering.
The charity is always looking for more volunteers..
