SEGAMAT: A family in Felda Chempelak is mourning the loss of their eldest daughter, who died from injuries sustained in a collision involving two buses at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) yesterday (April 19).Manarina Hasya Muhammad Karim, 21, a fourth-semester marketing undergraduate at UUM, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star. Her brother, Muhammad Haziq, 15, said the family was devastated when they received the news from UUM officials.

"We thought she could be saved. But Allah loves her more. We have to accept that this is His will," said Haziq at their family home in Felda Chempelak, Labis, today.

The family last saw Manarina during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a week before she returned to campus. "She reminded us to stay in school and work hard. "Her dream was to see us succeed, just like her.

She believed education was the way forward." Manarina was the eldest of four siblings and known as the motivator in the family. Her aunt, Nur Aliza Ahmad, 36, recounted how the family had managed to take a rare complete photograph during the first day of Hari Raya.

"It's usually hard to get everyone home at the same time, but this year we did. We never imagined that would be the last family photo with her," she said, holding back tears. Manarina had cared for her grandmother, Rokiah Ithnin, 64, in Felcra Bukit Kepong before leaving for university.

Her grandmother is said to be heartbroken over the news. Her parents, Muhammad Karim Sulaiman, 50, and Hariah Ahmad, 47, are in Subang, Selangor, making arrangements to bring her body home. The remains of Manarina are expected to arrive in Felda Chempelak by 8pm today (April 20) and will be buried at the Felda Chempelak Muslim Cemetery.
