Fiery hit-and-run leaves motorcyclist dead near Detroit, possible suspect ID’d

Police recovered a white Cadillac believed to be the vehicle involved in the crash late Sunday night.

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, MI — A possible suspect has been identified in a fiery hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist west of Detroit Sunday night. Redford Township police officers were dispatched to the area of Beech Daly and Plymouth roads at around 7:45 p.m.

on Sunday, April 20. Upon arrival, officers observed a motorcycle on fire with a person laying near it, a news release from the department states. Officers dragged the individual away from the motorcycle and called for medical assistance.



While waiting for paramedics, officers on scene began to render aid. After paramedics arrived, the individual would be transported to Corewell Health Hospital in Farmington Hills, where they were later pronounced dead. Next of kin has been notified, police said.

While a possible suspect has been identified, the investigation continues, police said Monday morning. “Our heart goes out to the friends and family of the victim in this crash,” Redford Township Police posted Monday, April 21 , on Facebook. “As the weather continues to get nicer, there will be more motorcycles on the road.

“Please take the time to look twice and pay special attention to motorcycles on the roadway to help avoid tragedy.” The preliminary investigation of Sunday’s fatal hit-and-run shows that the motorcycle was northbound on Beech Daly when a white Cadillac attempted a left turn from southbound Beech Daly onto eastbound Plymouth. The Cadillac struck the motorcycle in the intersection, then fled the scene, police said.

A vehicle believed to be the same Cadillac was recovered several hours later in the City of Detroit. A possible suspect has been identified and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. Police are asking that anyone with information on the crash, please contact Sgt.
