Anzac Day is to be observed at Newark Cemetery this Friday (April 25). The flags of Australia and New Zealand will be raised at 9.30am by Newark Town Mayor Diane Ledger and Deputy Mayor Barbara Corrigan.

Invitations have also been extended to civic and religious representatives, and Balderton RAFA. Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, to pay respect to their armed forces who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. It is held on April 25, the day Australia and New Zealand’s troops first landed in Gallipoli, Turkey, during the first world war.

This year marks 110th anniversary of the historic battle in 1915, where over 11,000 died. Four Australians and three New Zealanders are buried in the Commonwealth War Graves section of Newark Cemetery..
