"She absolutely loves it," Pugh said with a smile. "She laps it up." The actress explained that even when she's not personally attending an event, Granny Pat still makes quite an entrance.
A Star in Her Own Right
Florence explained how fans often recognize Granny Pat at events and cheer her on. "Even when I'm not there and my family goes in my place, she will walk in, and fans will be shouting, 'Granny!'" Pugh recalled.
Her grandmother doesn't shy away from the attention. "She'll curtsy, she'll pirouette, she'll blow kisses. It's like she's royalty," the actress added. According to Pugh, her grandmother loves every moment of it.
Visiting the Marvel Set
Granny Pat also got a taste of movie-making behind the scenes. Pugh revealed that both her grandmother and mother visited her on the set of Thunderbolts, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is set to hit theaters on May 2.
During their visit, director Jake Schreier allowed Granny Pat to call out "action" and "cut" on set. It didn't go entirely as expected, though.
"She didn't really catch all the instructions," Pugh said, laughing. "So no one was ready, but she called 'action' anyway and everyone had to quickly start working." The actress said her grandmother found it hilarious and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Mixed Reactions to Midsommar
While Granny Pat and the rest of Pugh's family are enthusiastic about her film career, not every movie has been a hit with all of them. Florence mentioned that her grandfather had a more reserved reaction to her 2019 horror film Midsommar.
"He told me, 'I probably wouldn't have watched it if you weren't in it,'" she shared with a laugh. The film, known for its unsettling and intense scenes, is a far cry from the superhero action of Thunderbolts.
Family Support Means Everything
Despite different tastes in film, Pugh says her family always shows up for her, no matter what she's working on. "They are just massive supporters," she said. "They will be there and they will show up in full Pugh force."
Having that kind of support clearly means a lot to the star, who balances a busy career in both indie films and blockbuster franchises. And it seems her grandmother, with her playful flair and show-stopping entrances, might just be a scene-stealer in her own right.
What's Next for Florence Pugh
Fans can catch Florence Pugh in Thunderbolts, which will be released in theaters on May 2. The film continues her journey in the Marvel universe and is expected to draw major attention upon release. With her family — especially Granny Pat — cheering her on, Pugh is ready to make another big splash in Hollywood.
