According to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Ramos was the first career official of the DENR to become the environment chief.He was the secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for four months in 2010, the last DENR chief under former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.Arroyo conferred on Ramos the Order of Lakandula (Rank of Bayani) for his public service.
“Under his leadership, the Bureau’s long-standing battlecry — ‘Mining shall be pro-people and pro-environment in sustaining wealth creation and improved quality of life’ — took root and defined the agency’s approach to minerals governance,” the MGB said.Before his stint as DENR chief, Ramos served as MGB director for over a decade. “A pillar of the Philippine mining sector, Ramos leaves behind a legacy defined by integrity, wisdom, and visionary leadership,” the MGB said.
Ramos’ family is holding a second wake from April 19 afternoon to April 25 in La Trinidad, Benguet.Ramos was also a director in Philippine oil firm Petron Corporation since 2018. – Rappler.
