Apr. 21—EDITOR'S NOTE — This story contains graphic information. A former Hood Junior High football coach, Dustin Ray Leonard, has been arrested on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a young child or disabled person, first degree felony.
According to an affidavit of arrest, Leonard, 35, is currently in the Ector County Jail with a $200,000 bond. The Ector County Sheriff's Office arrested him. According to the affidavit filed by Juan Ramos, a peace officer employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Special Agent in the Criminal Investigations Division, said Leonard on or about November 2014 through May 2015 in Ector County "did intentionally and knowingly commit the offenses of continuous sexual abuse of a young child or disabled person.
" The affidavit says on April 9, 2025, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Divisions (CID) Special Agents (SA's) responded to a call for service. DPS CID SA's contacted the reporting party, referred to as "Victim 1," at the DPS Texas Highway Patrol (THP) office in New Braunfels. Victim 1 requested contact from law enforcement related to a crime that had been committed in Ector County between the end of 2014 through the spring of 2015.
Victim 1 reported to DPS CID SA's that, while a student at Hood Jr. High School and approximately 13, Victim 1 was involved in an extramarital relationship with Leonard. Victim 1 reported that Leonard was a football coach at Hood Junior High School (now Wilson & Young Middle School).
Victim 1 reported that Victim 1 and Leonard developed a friendship as "student, coach" that evolved into flirtatious conversations, the affidavit stated. Victim 1 reported that the flirtatious conversations eventually transitioned into Leonard placing his hand on the small of Victim 1's back to placing Leonard's hand on Victim 1's butt. Victim 1 reported that Leonard would brush off the contact as accidental but eventually Leonard would begin to touch Victim 1's butt more often and without mention to the contact being accidental, the affidavit said.
Victim 1 reported that the contact with Leonard progressed after Leonard discovered that Victim 1's mother was not living in the home and that Victim 1's father was often gone for long periods of time due to work, the affidavit said. Victim 1 explained that the friendship between Leonard and Victim 1 evolved into a "relationship" between the volleyball season and the track season of that 2014/2015 school year. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 to explain Victim 1's first kiss with Leonard, Victim 1 explained that the kiss occurred after cross country season.
Victim 1 was provided a map of Hood Jr. High School and Victim 1 placed an "X" on the school map and labeled it "first kiss after volleyball season." Victim 1 described the kiss as a "peck" on the lips and Victim 1 described Victim 1's reaction to the kiss as being in shock.
Victim 1 stated that Victim 1 became more comfortable with the kiss after discussing it with Leonard and then Victim 1 explained that the next kiss would occur two weeks later. Victim 1 reported to DPS CID SA's that Leonard would discuss martial issues with Victim 1, further explaining that Leonard was not attracted to Leonard's wife, who was pregnant at the time, and that Leonard liked talking with Victim 1. Leonard would explain to Victim 1 that Leonard "really wants this" and that Leonard's wife "didn't have to know," the affidavit said.
Victim 1 described their feelings as feeling like "the other woman" and continuing the relationship because Victim 1 wanted to make Leonard happy and because there were perks to the relationship, such as getting out of class and getting special treatment, the affidavit stated. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 to explain when the kissing progressed and Victim 1 explained to SA's that Victim 1 and Leonard would go to Leonard's office where Leonard would "French kiss," or kiss with tongue, Victim 1 and Leonard would "feel me up," the affidavit said. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 to explain what "feel me up" meant and Victim 1 explained that Leonard would grab Victim 1's butt, hips, and vaginal area over Victim 1's clothing, the affidavit detailed.
DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 to explain Leonard's contact with Victim 1's vaginal area and Victim 1 explained that Leonard was "smooth and gentle" and sometimes Leonard would "grab it and be a little aggressive," the affidavit said. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 if Victim 1 contacted Leonard's penis and Victim 1 explained that during the kissing sessions Victim 1 could feel Leonard's erect penis and that Leonard would press his erect penis against Victim 1. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 approximately how many times this occurred, and Victim 1 first explained "twice a week.
" And about 25 times. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 how many times he touched Victim 1's vagina, over the clothing, and Victim 1 explained that Leonard caressed victim 1's vagina approximately 10 times. DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 how many times he would press his erect penis on Victim 1 and Victim 1 stated it was approximately ten times.
DPS CID SA's asked Victim 1 what Leonard's intention was when touching Victim 1's vagina and Victim 1 stated that Leonard said something to the effect of "I just want you to feel good." This statement is interpreted as attempting to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of Victim 1, the affidavit said. Victim 1 confirmed to DPS CID SA's that these contacts occurred over a 12-week period.
Victim 1 reported to DPS CID SA's that these contacts would occur in Leonard's office, in the school's gym, behind collapsible bleachers, in supply closets, and even in the school library. The contacts occurred both during and after school hours, the affidavit said. Victim 1 reported to DPS CID SA's that after Leonard discovered that Victim 1 sent a nude photography of Victim 1 to another student at Hood Jr High School that Leonard stated he "deserved" nude photographs from Victim 1 and would consistently ask for nude photographs.
Victim 1 stated that Victim 1 does not remember sending nude photographs to Leonard. Victim 1 reported to DPS CID SA's that Victim 1 and Leonard were found together in a supply closet by another student. This student, referred to as Witness 1 for the remainder of the affidavit, later reported Witness 1's findings to Ector County ISD police.
A report from the Ector County Independent School District was provided to DPS CID SA's before the interview. According to ECISD PD Report 150410-00188, on 03/26/2015, Victim 1 and Leonard were observed by Witness 1 leaving a supply closet where, according to Victim 1, Leonard embraces Victim 1 and then touched Victim 1's butt in front of Witness 1, the affidavit said. In this report Victim 1 denies any inappropriate contact with Leonard but during the interview with DPS CID SA's Victim 1 explains that Victim 1 was attempting to protect Leonard.
Victim 1 further explains that Victim 1 was in love with Leonard and did not want to see any harm come to Leonard. Victim 1 explained that during the relationship with Leonard, Victim 1 and Leonard would communicate on "Facebook Messenger" and in this communication thread Leonard would solicit sex from Victim 1. Victim 1 reported that Victim 1 agreed to engage in sexual intercourse with Leonard through Facebook Messenger where Leonard would pick Victim 1 up from the park in front of Barbara Jordan Elementary.
In the messages, Victim 1 reported that Victim 1 and Leonard would have sexual intercourse inside of Leonard's car on a night when Victim 1's father was away at work. Victim 1 referred to this park as Barbara Jordan Park, the park is formally known as Lawndale Park, at 9201 Rainbow Drive directly in front of Barbara Jordan Elementary School. Victim 1 explained that on the night that the sexual intercourse was to occur, Victim 1's sibling, referred to as Witness 2 for the remainder of the affidavit, observed the message thread.
DPS CID SA's know that Leonard would later leave the ECISD School District to be employed by another school district in Texas where Leonard was reported to have committed the same acts with a student in the school district..
