Former Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder and the Detroit Pistons lose Game 3 of their 2025 NBA playoffs first-round series to the New York Knicks.

The Brooklyn Nets' offseason began earlier this month when they played their final regular-season at home against the New York Knicks. While Brooklyn went on vacation the following day, the Knicks went on to prepare for their first-round playoff series against the Detroit Pistons and a former Net, Dennis Schroder, has been trying to guide the Pistons to an upset over the Knicks.Schroder and the Pistons fell just short of their goal of beating the Knicks in Game 3 in Detroit in Thursday as they lost to New York 118-116 that was as back-and-forth as it gets in the playoffs.

Schroder had another solid performance for the Pistons as he put up 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists in 30 minutes off the bench, the kind of outing that helped Detroit come back from a 14-point deficit. The Pistons had more balanced scoring this time around as Cade Cunningham and Tim Hardaway Jr. tied for the team lead in points with 24 with three other players, including Schroder, putting up at least 12 points in the contest to keep things close.

Unfortunately, Detroit did not have much of an answer for New York's offense as four Knicks scored at least 20 points, led by Karl-Anthony Towns' 31 points and eight rebounds. With the Knicks winning Game 3, they now have a 2-1 lead in the series and have regained home-court advantage after the Pistons stole a game on the road in Game 2 to even the series at 1-1. Game 4 will be on Sunday and if Detroit is going to go back to New York with the series tied at 2-2, Schroder and company will have to tighten things up on the defensive end of the floor if they are going to beat a formidable Knicks team.
