A retired police dog met Tom Hardy as part of promotion for a new Netflix movie. Bear, a retired Sussex Police dog, was invited to meet Tom Hardy as part of his recent promotion for new Netflix film, Havoc. Netflix contacted the Thin Blue Paw Foundation, a charity which supports and rehabilitates former police dogs, which invited Bear and other retired police dogs to join Tom on the set.

Bear, alongside the other dogs, also helped to deliver golden envelopes to Tom sharing their stories and asking him questions about his life, career and the movie. Chairman of Thin Blue Paw Keiran and communication manager Amy were also invited to the filming.

Keiran said: "We were honoured to be invited by Netflix to help with the press junket for the new movie, Havoc, and were really excited to introduce Neo, Gilly and Bear to Tom, and tell him more about our work supporting retired police dogs. “The dogs had a great time and were given five star treatment during their visit to London – although we apologise to the sound engineers and recordists who were trying to work with a lot of background noise.” Bear served as a general purpose police dog with Sussex Police until he retired in 2020.

He was adopted by Julia Pope, who is from Sussex. Last summer, he needed an £8,500 specialist operation to repair two herniated discs in his spine caused by his years of strenuous police work.

The surgery, which helped Bear back to full mobility, and rehabilitation afterwards was partly funded by the Thin Blue Paw Foundation. The German Shepherd and owner Julia, also received a Thin Blue Paw Foundation’s Lifesaver Award at a ceremony at Sussex Police HQ, in Lewes, in December last year..
