An anthology of short stories by Francisco Teixeira de Queiroz (1848-1919), who wrote under the pseudonym Bento Moreno, will be published in English by the ContraatircsE (Contra Escrita) label, in what will be the author's first book in a foreign language.

The anthology "My Death: And Other Visions from a Fading Century", by Teixeira de Queiroz , has been translated by Philipe Pharo and may highlight to the English-language book market the Portuguese author who was president of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences in 1915, according to Filipe Faro da Costa from the publisher that endorses the work. It is “a small anthology of four short stories that reveals a long-forgotten literary gem, offering foreign readers a vision of the rich tradition of Portuguese literature and culture,” Faro da Costa told Lusa. “The title chosen for this English publication is based on the first story in the book, ‘My Death’.

In an analytical perspective considering the context of the others, it is a small anthology, with no parallel with an original title as a whole. However, all [the stories] were taken from the book ‘New Stories’ (1887),” the editor added. The book will be available worldwide from the 30th, inaugurating the “Portuguese Classics” collection.

The translation had no financial support. “It depends exclusively on the readers who come to purchase copies of the book”, emphasised Faro da Costa. According to the publisher, the publication of more works is planned, without revealing any other title or author to Lusa, “for reasons of various kinds”.
