COTTONWOOD, Ariz — Families looking to immerse themselves in trees and cool breezes have the opportunity on Saturday, April 26, with a “Family Nature Day” near Cottonwood. The free event at Dead Horse Ranch State Park will allow adults and children to learn about birds and walk among towering Cottonwood trees. “Once people are on the Verde River and down here, we like to showcase that, and often people care more about conservation,” said Grace Filson, outreach coordinator with Friends of the Verde River.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.

m . . It will feature 30 booths, educational activities, vendors and food.

Separately, The Verde Valley Bird and Nature Festival is taking place and runs through Sunday. That event involves seminars and bird watching trips in the Verde Valley area. The Friends of the Verde River nonprofit works to maintain healthy riparian lands and a re-charged water supply.
