The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) yesterday slashed fuel prices across all categories, with the new rates taking effect from last night. The move was quickly mirrored by the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC), which aligned its prices with the State-run giant. As per the latest revision, Petrol Octane 92 now costs Rs.
293 per litre, down Rs. 6, while Petrol Octane 95 sees a sharp Rs. 20 drop, bringing it to Rs.
341 per litre. Auto Diesel prices have been reduced by Rs. 12, now retailing at Rs.
274 per litre, and Super Diesel is down by Rs. 6 to Rs. 325 per litre.
Kerosene, a critical commodity for low-income households and the fisheries industry, has been reduced by Rs. 5, bringing the new price to Rs. 178 per litre.
Separately, LAUGFS Gas PLC announced yesterday that it would not revise LP gas prices for May 2025. The decision was confirmed by Cluster Director and CEO Dr. Niroshan J.
Peiris, who stated that prices will remain unchanged despite fluctuating global energy markets. The decisions are expected to provide some relief in addressing the rising cost of living for essential goods and services, as part of the Government’s broader efforts to stabilise domestic prices..
