It was an afternoon that will go down in history for all associated with the Reds , as they won their second Premier League title and launched celebrations that went long into the night . Though Tottenham took an unexpected lead through Dominic Solanke, it turned out that Ange Postecoglou 's side were merely there to make up the numbers as Liverpool ran riot, winning 5-1 when they only needed a point .

Luis Diaz , Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were all on the scoresheet, while Destiny Udogie also put through his own net in what was another miserable afternoon to add to the long list of them for Spurs this season. Neville, though, was particularly critical of one star at one point of the game. It was the third goal that he tore apart from a Spurs point of view, and in particular the defending from Lucas Bergvall.

The goal, which came in the 34th minute, was scored by Gakpo, but arrived when Bergvall tried to head out Alexis Mac Allister's corner. The effort was tame, and Gakpo picked up the loose ball and fired into the bottom corner - but Neville felt one man was to blame. Gary Neville (pictured) blasted a 'pathetic' Tottenham star for his efforts against Liverpool Spurs scored first but conceded five unanswered goals as they tasted a 5-1 defeat at Anfield Neville took issue with the defensive header from Lucas Bergvall (left) for the third goal, scored by Cody Gakpo 'Bergvall's header is appalling, it's pathetic,' Neville said on Sky Sports commentary.

'He half ducks his head. 'I have no idea what he's doing. It was a free header and he ended up glancing it into his own box.

'But take nothing away from Gakpo, what he does really well is get it away so quickly. It's a good strike. 'Spurs are the perfect opponents for Liverpool today.

They just don't smell danger. Liverpool have got so many players out there who will punish any mistake at any level.' Bergvall has generally been one of the more positive parts of Spurs' season, with the 19-year-old playing 27 times in the Premier League in his debut campaign with the club.

He scored against Liverpool in the first leg of the two sides' League Cup semi-final, which the Reds did win before suffering defeat by Newcastle in the final. That was no worry of Liverpool's or Arne Slot's, though, as the Reds boss celebrated his side's title win . 'I am very, very happy but also it is quite unreal,' he said after the game.

'We have worked so hard for this moment to happen and when it does it needs some time for it to truly mean it. LIVERPOOL ARE TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS! 🔥 Cody Gakpo puts it away 🫡 pic.twitter.

'The only moment I was emotional today was when we arrived at the stadium to see what it meant for the fans, for these people. For us to have a chance to win it was really special but it felt, but we still have to do it.

'But everyone inside that bus felt that if the fans were with us, which they are, it was impossible to lose this game of football. During the game, after the game, it has been incredible how supportive the fans were and how the players played. Special to be part of this day.
