AUSTIN, Texas — Some residents at Aldrich 51 Apartments in the Mueller neighborhood of East Austin are shaken up after a shooting left two people dead . Austin police said it happened around 9:30 p.m.
on Easter Sunday. The department reported numerous 911 calls about gunfire at the apartment complex. When officers got there, they found two men on the ground with serious injuries.
First responders tried to save their lives, but both men, identified as Kendrick Parker and Shamar Roach , died at the scene. Kelly Tant said he had been walking his dog around the same time when he noticed the police. Tant and other residents said the shooting happened inside the parking garage, which they noted has had several issues with the gate not working.
Tant also mentioned that in the past three years since he's lived in the neighborhood, he's had his car stolen twice, a man was shot in the front of the building, and people have run into the parking garage gate. "Some of the residents here are moving out like crazy," said Michelle Ledesma, another resident of the complex. "We're going to have to sign a petition or something to get management to get security here.
" As for Sunday's incident, police said the shooting stemmed from a child custody dispute between two groups of people. The shooters were detained, but no charges have been filed at this time. KVUE spoke with the property management on-site, who said they alerted residents of the incident and were saddened to learn of the events that unfolded at the complex.
The property also released the following statement: "Management is aware of the incident that occurred last night at the property and are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our residents and staff. According to authorities, this is an isolated incident and management is working to support those affected and to ensure the continued safety of the community.
