Jake Hill begins his quest for a second successive BTCC title this weekend - and the Platts Heath racer says there’s little room for error.

Platts Heath’s Jake Hill begins the defence of his British Touring Car Championship title this weekend - and he wants to lay down an early marker at Donington Park. The Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport driver won his first BTCC crown in last season’s finale at Brands Hatch and there are new rules - as well as a field of top drivers vying for his crown - for the West Surrey Racing-run pilot to contend with this year. Changes include the use of 100 per cent sustainable fuel, a two-year engine development freeze and a restricted race-two tyre choice for race-one podium finishers only.

There is also a revised safety car procedure. “It’s been a long winter and I’m really excited to finally get back out racing in the BTCC this weekend,” the BMW 330i M Sport racer said. “With the new rules and regulations coming into play for this season, it’s been a winter of learning for everyone - and we’re discovering more every time we get in the car.

“Saturday’s practice sessions will be key, and we need to hit the ground running because there’s little to no room for error in this championship. “I’ve got great support from Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and WSR, and I know how hard everyone in the team is working to make sure we can defend our BTCC Championship title.” Mark Blundell, sporting director of Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, said the team were ready for the long battle ahead which concludes at Brands Hatch on October 4-5.

“It’s always a huge moment to get the season under way, and lining up on the grid as defending champions brings a real sense of pride for everyone involved,” he said. “A tremendous amount of work has gone on behind the scenes over the winter to get us to this point, and I’d like to thank all of our partners for their continued support in helping make that possible. “We know the challenge ahead won’t be easy, but the team is motivated, focused and ready to give everything to make it another successful campaign.

” The new season also sees the return to the series of Nicolas Hamilton - brother of seven-time F1 world champion Lewis - who is returning to the grid after two years away with Fawkham-based Un-Limited Motorsport ..
