Two Goodnight Sweetheart co-stars were in love for real away from the ITV sitcom . In the series six episode How I Won the War, which saw Gary and Phoebe join a concert troupe in Belgium during WW2 , viewers were introduced to husband and wife Sid and Nancy Potter. And it turns out they weren’t just acting out their love on-screen – they were together for real.
Nancy was played by Bonnie Langford, 60, while Paul Grunert, 68, played her on-screen husband Sid. The pair were married from 1995 until 2015, and welcomed daughter Biana together before they eventually divorced and called it quits. Tragically, their marriage ended in tatters.
Doctor Who star Bonnie first met Paul while they were starring in a musical together in 1987, but by 2015 they had split due to “unreasonable behaviour”. The Sun reported that Bonnie was granted a quickie divorce in court, which took less than 90 seconds. A source told the publication: “Bonnie split from her husband quite some time ago and it is very amicable and they remain good friends.
“Bonnie has not discussed the split publicly as she is an extremely private person who rarely talks about her personal life and she wants it to remain that way for the sake of their daughter.” Though she tends to keep her personal life very private, Bonnie had spilled certain details about her marriage over the years. She explained prior to their divorce: “I'd known Paul since 1987, when we'd done a show together.
But I just hadn't thought of him in that way. Then a friend suggested we all get together. “In the end, she couldn't make it, so it was just Paul and me.
And that was that. It's always the times in your life when you're not looking that you find what you need." They weren’t the only Goodnight Sweetheart stars who knew each other in real life.
Reg actor Christopher Ettridge played alongside his real life son Alfie Ettridge Rogers, who played Reg’s son Frank in the episode One O’Clock Jump. And Gary and Yvonne’s daughter Ellie Sparrow was played by Yvonne star Emma Amos’ real daughter, Esme Coy..
