GOP has five choices in White Township; school boards have some write-in room

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the second in a series of election previews. Five Republicans are alone on the ballot for township-wide positions in White Township. Incumbent Richard G.

Gallo seeks another six-year term as a township supervisor. For tax collector, Robert S. Porter and Amanda Piccola seek the Republican nod for the position now held by longtime collector Jeff Mack.



Incumbent Donna Cousins seeks another six-year term as township auditor, while appointee William Smith seeks a two-year term as an auditor. Candidates for judge of elections are Republican Hillary Magas in the first precinct, Republican Diane Colley in the second, Democrat Vickie Enciso in White 3-1, Republican James R. Evans II in White 3-2, Republican Lynda M.

Burner in White 3-3, Democrat Joan M. Peterman in White 4-5 and Republican Christine Evans in the sixth precinct. One position of inspector of elections has two candidates, Republican Lorraine Campbell and Democrat Paula B.

Daskivich in White 3-3. Otherwise, it’s Republicans Marilyn Magas in the first precinct and Mary Ann Donatelli in the second, Democrat Juanita Bufalini in White 3-1, Republicans Denice Sickon in White 3-2 and Lorraine Campbell in White 3-3, Democrat Birttie Clemons in White 4-5 and Republican Candace A. Deemer in the sixth precinct.

o o o There is some room for write-ins on Indiana County area school boards, such as in Harmony Area where a Region 1 and an At Large seat, each for four year terms are up for grabs. Otherwise: • Seven candidates have cross-filed for Democratic and Republican nominations for four four-year-term seats on the Indiana Area School District’s board of directors. Incumbents Quintina Thomas, Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro, Tom Harley and Jim Shaffer are running against Eric W.

Brocious (who also is unopposed on both party ballots for a two-year term on the board), Michael Carnovale, and Wenxi Schwab. • In Homer-Center, three candidates are on the ballot for four four-year-term seats on the school board there. Incumbents Michael Bertig, Misty D.

Hunt and Alan Shank each have cross-filed. • For four-year seats in Marion Center Area, Jennie Ivory cross-filed for the Region 1 seat, while Martha Buckley filed only as a Democrat. Incumbent Tony J.

Moretti is unopposed on the Republican ticket in Region 2, while no Democrat filed there. Incumbent Charles R. Glaser has cross-filed for one of two seats in Region 3, Dustin Griffith cross-filed for the other.

• In Penns Manor Area, four four-year seats are up for grabs. Incumbent Erika Seich cross-filed as the only candidate in Region 1 (Clymer), incumbent Robert Packer cross-filed as the only candidate in Region 2 (Cherryhill Township), and in Region 3 (Pine Township) incumbent Richard J. Polenik filed only as a Republican while incumbent Tammy Dalton cross-filed in balloting for two seats there.

• In Purchase Line five candidates cross-filed for four four-year seats. Incumbents Michael Moyer and Scott Gearhart are up against David Small, Elaine Little and Quentin T. Brooks.

• Five candidates are running for four four-year seats in River Valley. In Region 1, incumbent Rick Harper is cross-filed. In Region 2, Holly Lanich-Gibson again is running, this time cross-filed with no opposition.

For two seats in Region 3, incumbent Nathan Baird is up against returning candidate Tawnya Satler and Saltsburg Elementary School Principal Tracy Richards. All three have crossfiled. • In United School District, four candidates are unopposed for four four-year seats in three regions.

In Region 1, Patrick J. Esposito cross-filed. In Region 2, incumbents Eric Matava and Shaun R.

McGinnis have cross-filed. In Region 3, incumbent Mark A. Somers filed only as a Republican.

• Apollo-Ridge has four four-year school board seats up for grabs. Incumbents Dominick Duso and Melany E. Andree cross-filed, while incumbent John R.

Clark filed only as a Democrat. • Armstrong Region III, which includes Smicksburg and West Mahoning Township, has four candidates that cross-filed, including incumbents Brenda Schrecengost and Jason A. Elkin, and challengers Darlene Smail and Curtis Swingle.

• Punxsutawney Area has five seats up for grabs, in Jefferson County and part of northern Indiana County, with four candidates on the ballot. Alan Nichol was the only candidate to cross-file. He is on the Democratic ballot with Lisa Gourley, and on the Republican ballot with incumbents Chad Horner and Katie Laska.
