Pune: Bombay high court has directed issual of notices to state women and child development (WCD) department and other respondents in response to two petitions challenging the termination of two members of Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Pune on Oct 8 last year. The termination followed a departmental inquiry conducted in the wake of the controversy over JJB's order granting bail to the 17-year-old driver in Porsche Taycan car crash case against conditions such as writing a 300-word essay on traffic discipline, among others. The govt stated that after holding an inquiry, the two members were found guilty of misusing their powers vested under JJA, and so the govt terminated their appointment.

20am in Kalyaninagar while the teen and his friends were returning home after partying at a couple of bars in Mundhwa. The bail conditions had caused nationwide outrage. Lawyer Harshawardhan Pawar, representing the petitioners, told TOI, "Our case is that the state's notification terminating the service of our clients is illegal, arbitrary, and without proper reasons.

The action was taken because of the media pressure after the bail conditions led to a row." Pawar said, "The bail order was passed as per the provisions of the sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of the Children) Act, 2015. The custody of the child in conflict with the law was given to the grandfather as per the Act after he gave an undertaking to the board that he would take care of the child.

Their acts do not amount to misuse of power." The JJB consists of two members appointed by the WCD department while one member is selected by the judiciary. The members are appointed by the department for a period of three years, and their appointment can be terminated if their conduct is not according to rules.
