The group pointed out one particular camera near the Stuart Road railway bridge, questioning why these devices were attached to lampposts rather than mounted on easy to spot yellow poles. Plymouth Live readers are mainly of the opinion that if you don't break the speed limit then you won't get caught, regardless of whether the cameras are easy to see or not. Plymouth City Council has responded firmly, assuring that all 10 cameras comply with Department for Transport standards and are in plain sight.
They also mentioned that warning signs will be installed to alert drivers about the cameras, although admitting the project is behind schedule and won't be operational until May. Despite this, Tory councillors remain sceptical about the initiative, saying if they regain control of Plymouth they will overhaul the scheme or even scrap it..
A Tory spokesperson said: "Such attacks on the motorist will no longer be tolerated, nor the use of such webs to entrap drivers. Any safety criteria we impart will be fair and balanced most importantly need to have a proper consultation and based on statistical evidence it is warranted in the interests of both driver and pedestrian safety.
