Hill confident despite stalling start

BTCC champion Jake Hill thinks it’s only a matter of time before he’s back on the pace.

Jake Hill issued a warning to his rivals after an unspectacular start to his British Touring Car Championship title defence. Platts Heath racer Hill missed out on a double podium at Donington before finishing race three in 10th place - but the West Surrey Racing-run Laser Tools with MB Motorsport pilot has told the rest of the field to expect rougher rides ahead. “It’s been a mixed day,” said Hill.

“Ultimately we’ve made progress with the BMW over the weekend, which is all we can do at the moment. “There’s still a lot more lap time to be found and the last race was pretty brutal. “I’m not that sad about two fourths and a 10th.

Obviously I’d love to be up on the podium where our main title rivals are, but we’ve been dealt this car and it’s where we are right now. “Our time will come and we will get back to winning ways soon - I’m sure of that.” Having qualified just eighth with a Q2 lap of 1min08.

236sec, Hill surged forwards during the opening race, climbing to fourth place, and then repeated that result in race two. Five-time champion Ash Sutton won the first two events for NAPA Racing ahead of Tom Ingram (Team Vertu). Tenth in the finale, after being hit by several rival cars during the 18 laps, meant Hill left Donington sixth in the championship - one place ahead of LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR debutant Aiden Moffat.

Team Vertu’s Tom Chilton won race three. Nicolas Hamilton - brother of seven-times F1 world champion Lewis - was 21st, 19th and 22nd for Fawkham-based Un-Limited Motorsport. The championship moves to Brands Hatch’s Indy Circuit on May 10-11.
