As a visitor, I am deeply shocked and saddened by the extent of homelessness I have witnessed in the United States. This nation—hailed as the most advanced and wealthiest in the world—presents a starkly different reality when one walks down its streets. In towns and cities across the country, I’ve seen countless people without shelter or access to basic necessities like hygiene, clothing, and clean water.
Many sleep on pavements, under bridges, or in makeshift camps—deprived of food, healthcare, and hope. This is not just the result of poverty, but of a systemic failure and widespread social apathy. It is a tragic contradiction that the world’s wealthiest individuals live in America, yet so many of its citizens go unseen and uncared for.
An estimated one million people live on the streets, while the affluent look the other way. What is most heartbreaking is the absence of any foreseeable future for the homeless. In this age of remarkable technological progress and boundless wealth, so many lives are still lived in limbo—stripped of dignity, purpose, and opportunity.
