The Hospital Authority on Friday admitted that staff members at Castle Peak Hospital had disrupted ward operations and “seriously breached disciplinary requirements.”Tony Ko, chief executive of the authority, said that the behaviour was inappropriate for medical workers, according to local media.Castle Peak Hospital dismissed the staff members involved and strengthened disciplinary efforts, Ko added.
Ming Pao reported that, in February, an off-duty male nurse and a male patient care assistant at the hospital were out drinking one night. The nurse reportedly got drunk and was led back to the psychiatric institution’s ward, as he was scheduled to work the following day.The newspaper said the drunken nurse had acted “disruptively” and was tied onto a bed by an overnight duty nurse.

The drunken nurse and the overnight duty nurse were dismissed, while the patient care assistant – who was approaching retirement age – had to retire prematurely, Ming Pao reported. The trio were senior staff members with over a decade of experience.Castle Peak Hospital confirmed to the newspaper that there had been off-duty staff members disrupting the normal operations of the ward.
The hospital fired three employees involved after an internal investigation. No patient was hurt in the incident, they added.A spokesperson for the hospital denied that the drunken nurse was tied onto a bed.
