Hope Place extends helping hand to ailing elderly man

Hope Place representative Griffin Deng (left) during a recent visit to deliver the food aid.KUCHING (April 28): Hope Place Kuching is providing continuous food aid to a 60-year-old man facing several health issues.Kapie Galang, who lives alone at Kpg Merdang Lumut in Kota Samarahan near here, has neither income nor savings to support his daily life, said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) in a statement today.

Following a recent visit, Hope Place learnt that Kapit, who used to work as a daily paid construction worker, has diabetes, high blood pressure and severe gout.“All his joints, especially his hands and legs are very swollen. Because of this, his movements are very slow and he is in pain all the time.



Due to his severe gout, Kapie takes painkillers whenever the pain is too unbearable.“He retired from the construction sector when he was in his mid 50s. Kapie is not married and thus never thought of buying a house for himself.

He has no property or any savings.“However, Kapie is fortunate to have a caring family. His late brother had built a small shack at his property for Kapie to stay.
