‘Hostile manner’: Report reveals reason for Abhishek Nayar being sacked as India’s assistant coach

A few days after being removed from the position of team India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar re-joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but his position has not yet been disclosed. Abhishek was a part of KKR as an assistant coach and their mentor when they lifted their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title last year (in 2024). KKR went on to their X (formerly known as Twitter) account to confirm the re-entry of Abhishek in their team setup.

“Welcome back home, Abhishek Nayar,” they posted.The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sacked the support staff members- namely Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip, and conditioning coach Soham Desai after a performance review for India’s dismal performance in Test cricket.A source revealed that Abhishek got taken down from his position as India’s assistant coach on a very hostile manner, and how everyone had the idea that he would re-join KKR as soon as he gets taken down from the role.



“Abhishek would never be out of work even though he has been sacked in a very hostile manner. Everyone in Indian cricket knew that the moment BCCI gets rid of him, KKR would have him back in their fold,” an IPL source told PTI on condition of anonymity.Nayar is expected to be in the KKR dugout as the team faces Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 21 at their home ground, the Eden Gardens.

He was spotted in training sessions with the team as he was engaging with the players and sharing inputs when having discussions.There was a significant hype in the KKR camp around Abhishek Nayar re-joining the camp, as a lot of players interacted with him. Nayar has been an important figure in the cricketing operations of the franchise.
