The Houston Chronicle reports high UV index warnings, potentially leading to rapid sunburn. Despite warm conditions, record highs remain unchallenged. Sun safety is advised.

As Houston basks in the warmth of an idyllic weekend, the city's weather service warns of high temperatures and humidity, making conditions ripe for sunburn. According to the Houston Chronicle, the UV index is expected to hit 10 or higher, signaling a high risk for the sun's rays to damage unprotected skin in mere minutes. The weather forecast, pulled from National Weather Service, suggests that today's conditions will show patchy fog before 9 am, followed by a mostly sunny sky, with highs hovering around 85 degrees.

The light, southeastern wind could showcase gusts as strong as 20 mph. As the evening draws near, cloud coverage will increase, bringing a thirty percent chance of rain after 5 am, and lows around 71 degrees. The forecast says Sunday will be just as hot as Saturday, with a slightly higher temperature of 86 degrees.

But with the blue skies comes a caution; the angle of the sun is akin to that of late summer, making outdoor ventures in Houston potentially perilous without proper precaution. The Houston Chronicle article clearly state "sunburns are real possibility even at this time of year." While the city enjoys a temporary reprieve from the sweltering 90-degree days typically expected by late May, residents are encouraged to be vigilant against ultraviolet exposure.

Looking ahead, Houston may see more clouds and possible rain or storms starting Tuesday, marking a change from the clear skies. While long-term forecasts aren’t certain, heavier rain could arrive mid-week and help ease any growing drought..
