RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 champion and DRAG: The Musical creator and star Alaska Thunderf**k has revealed how legend Liza Minnelli came to be a producer of – and have a voice cameo in – the Off Broadway show.Multi-hyphenate drag legend Alaska Thunderf**k’s latest conquest wouldn’t be complete without that trademark Alaska twist – and in the case of DRAG: The Musical, the Off-Broadway show from the All Stars 2 winner, one of those twists came in the form of musical theatre legend Liza MinnelliMinnelli, who recently guest starred in the season 17 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race, was announced to be a producing partner in October last year, just before the show opened. Speaking exclusively to PinkNews while promoting her film God Save the Queens, Alaska has revealed exactly how that collaboration came to be.

“We were looking for someone who has an iconic voice, and someone who’s a showbiz icon to do this short voiceover part we have in the show, a narrator at the beginning,” the Drag Race winner (and campaigner for All Winners 2) says.“And we were reaching out to different people, and we got into contact with Liza’s people, and we were like..



. ‘We might be able to get Liza,'” Alaska adds.“And she went, ‘No, I don’t want to do just this voiceover part.

I want you to write a second voiceover part for me, because [just one] isn’t enough things to say. And also, I want to be a producing partner on this.’ She’s just our guardian angel, fairy godmother, icon, and we get to listen to her voice every night.

” View this post on Instagram A post shared by DRAG: The Musical (@dragthemusical)Co-written by and starring Alaska, DRAG: The Musical follows “two drag houses, both alike indignity” as they “vie for supremacy in a wig-snatching, diva-licious musical journey of fashion, family, and forgiveness”.“After a bitter split, fishy queen Alexis Gillmore opened her club, The Fish Tank, while glamourpuss Miss Kitty established The Cathouse,” reads the official synopsis. “Heels click and tensions rise as old wounds are opened up and the two clubs fight to survive.

”A workshop version of the show was held in Los Angeles in June 2022, before it opened 21 October at the New Word Stages theatre. The closing is scheduled for 27 April.The live cast album of DRAG: The Musical is also set to be released 25 April – and as Alaska points out, it could be Liza’s ticket to EGOT status (when one individual has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.

“We want it to go to number one, because Liza Minnelli produced it, and if this album wins a Grammy, she will win an EGOT. So we’re trying to win Liza a Grammy! That’s the goal. And also it’s really f**king good.

”The cast of DRAG: The Musical stars several Drag Race alumni, including Jujubee, Luxx Noir London Jan Sport and more alongside Alaska.New York City drag legend Lagoona Bloo, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert actor Nick Adams, Six The Musical’s Bre Jackson, Pose’s Eddie Korbich, and Rent: Live’s J. Elaine Marcos also star.
