Spring sports are in full swing and athletes throughout the county are making their mark. Each week, the Howard County Times will select a team of the week and 10 standout performers from that week’s action.Here are the top picks from April 7-13.
Team of the WeekReservoir baseballThe Gators’ pitching staff and defense shined in their wins over River Hill and Wilde Lake, not allowing a run in either contest. Gavin Metrick and Matt Russell combined to no-hit the Hawks, while Tommy Futrell and Ben Tzucker shut out the Wildecats.10 standout players1.
Aidan West, Long Reach, baseball: West was 2-for-3, including a double, and drove in three against Wilde Lake. The senior closed a big week with two home runs and a game-high five RBIs against Hammond, as the Lightning scored a combined 37 runs in their two wins.2.
Hayden Baumgartner, Marriotts Ridge, girls lacrosse: Baumgartner scored a combined 12 goals over Marriotts Ridge’s four games last week and also added two assists. Her highlight performances came against Queen Anne’s and Cape Henlopen in the Shore Tournament with four goals in each game. She also tallied two assists against Queen Anne’s.
3. Abbie Frisvold, Reservoir, softball: Frisvold finished with multiple hits in all three games last week against Hammond, River Hill and Wilde Lake. She started the week with a pair of extra-base hits, including a triple and inside the park home run against the Golden Bears.
The senior also pitched a complete game in the win against the Hawks and concluded the week by driving in a game-high five runs against Wilde Lake.4. Mason Machiran, Marriotts Ridge, boys lacrosse: Machiran dished out a game-high four assists and added two goals in an 18-6 win over Centennial on Thursday.

Seth Rosenfeld, Long Reach, baseball: Rosenfeld formed a dominant one-two punch with West at the top of Long Reach’s lineup. He mashed against Wilde Lake with three hits, including a double and a triple, and tied a game-high three RBIs.
The senior maintained momentum against Hammond with a home run and four more RBIs in a commanding 14-2 victory.6. Kaitlyn Magdar, Mt.
Hebron, girls lacrosse: Magdar excelled with a team-high six points (five goals, one assist) in each of the Vikings’ games last week, against Atholton and Howard. The Pittsburgh commit sparked the offense in the team’s first win of the season against the Raiders and has scored five goals in a game three times in the first seven games.7.
Cambell Sagin, Reservoir, softball: Sagin shined in the heart of Reservoir’s lineup with a combined eight hits across three commanding wins. She sparked the offense in a 9-1 win over River Hill on Wednesday with a team-high three hits, including a 3-run home run as well as a double, and ended the afternoon with a game-high four runs batted in.8.
Lauren Jensen, Centennial, softball: Jensen threw four scoreless innings in Centennial’s 6-0 win over Atholton on Tuesday and allowed just one hit, striking out four. She earned a second win in the Eagles’ 7-3 over Marriotts Ridge on Wednesday, pitching a complete game and striking out four as she also went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a triple.9.
Philip Kaiser, Hammond, outdoor track and field: Kaiser set a new personal best at Tuesday’s league meet at Mt. Hebron, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches in the high jump on his third attempt, which ranks eighth in Maryland according to athletic.net.
10. Gabrielle Millwood, Atholton, outdoor track and field: Milwood showcased her versatility at Wednesday’s league meet at Atholton as she competed in the 100, 200 and long jump. She won the 100 (12.
