HUGHESTOWN — Silvio Giardina and Elijah Barr combined on a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Pittston Area to a 6-1 victory over Holy Redeemer in a nonleague baseball matchup between the top two teams in each division of the Wyoming Valley Conference. Jake Aftewicz had a double and two RBIs for the Patriots, while Barr had a single, RBI and scored one run. Richard Tonte had two hits, including a double.
Giardina pitched the first three innings before Barr came on to toss the final four to earn the win. Chase Binker singled twice and drove in a run for Holy Redeemer. Wyoming Area 14, Hanover Area 1: At Wyoming Area, Cody Meade pitched a five-inning three-hitter with two strikeouts and helped his cause with a double in four RBIs in Wyoming Area’s Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 victory .
Alex Vacula had two hits and scored three runs for the Warriors, while David Fath had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one. Jacob Morgan had a double and two RBIs. Nate Wright had a double for Hanover Area.
Ben Kolbicka and Logan Richardson each had a single. Tunkhannock 4, MMI Prep 2: At Tunkhannock, Brandon Kozlansky allowed three hits over six innings and struck out 14 to get the win for the Tigers . It was Tunkhannock’s first win of the season.
Paul Poepperling pitched the seventh and struck out one to close out the game. Jaden Baltrusatis had a single and two RBIs for the Tigers. Jimmy Patton had two singles and scored two runs.
Nick Pantanges had a double and RBI for MMI Prep. Michael Kranyak had a single and scored one run. Lake-Lehman 5, Wyoming Seminary 2: At Seminary, after managing just one hit in its previous two games, Lake-Lehman collected 10 singles in a win over Wyoming Seminary .
Scott Egbert had two hits, one RBI and scored one run. Sam Finarelli had two hits and scored two runs. Jake Naugle pitched six innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts to get the win.
Connor Smigielski came on and pitched the seventh. Leo Nockley had a single and two RBI for Wyoming Seminary. Caleb Aponick and Colin Donovan each had a single.
Crestwood 11, Dallas 5: At PNC Field, Chase Galella had three hits, three RBIs and scored one run, and Crestwood scored eight runs in the top of the seventh to come from behind and defeat Dallas. Connor Wagaman had three hits and scored one run. Josh Mylet and Chris Litchkofski each went 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Caleb McManus had three hits, one RBI and scored two runs. Kaden Coyne had three hits, including a double and one RBI. Brady Youngblood had two hits and two RBIs.
Dom Zangardi and Jack Leandri each had a single and an RBI. Boys volleyball Crestwood 3, Nanticoke Area 1: At Nanticoke Area, Luke Joseph had 21 digs and 11 service points, while Tommy McLaughlin had 10 blocks in Crestwood’s win over Nanticoke Area, 25-22, 12-25, 25-16 and 25-21. Mark Ferdinand had 10 kills and 15 digs for the Comets with JJ Stec chipping in with 15 kills and 12 service points.
Brady Rushton had 36 assists and nine service points for Nanticoke Area. Zack Zubritski had 15 kills and 13 digs, while Ethan Yendrzeiwski had 10 kills and Jayden Wasielewski had 11 kills. Berwick 3, Valley West 1: At Berwick, Carlos Guzman had 18 kills and four aces, while Jackson Matash had 42 assists in Berwick’s win, 25-22, 24-26, 25-16 and 25-10.
Gavin Jones had 14 digs and 10 service points for the Bulldogs. Anthony Perez had 12 digs with Rocco Romeo adding 12 kills. Jayden Charles added 20 service points and 14 kills.
Holy Redeemer 3, Hazleton Area 0: At Holy Redeemer, Joshua Rocha had 30 kills, six digs and seven points, while Jack Wasiakowski had 34 assists and three aces in Holy Redeemer’s win, 25-14, 25-12 and 25-16. Max Mohutsky had 16 points and two kills for the Royals. Koirey Tang had three kills and two blocks.
Boys lacrosse Lake-Lehman 12, Wyoming Area 6: At Lake-Lehman, Anthony Magnotta scored five goals while Hunter Palka, Logan Law and Matt Finarelli each had two in Lake-Lehman’s win. Hayden Evans added one goal for the Black Knights. Dominik Brown recorded four saves.
Aiden Hosier scored three goals for Wyoming Area. Ryan Jones, Oliver Bohn and Tom May each scored one. Anthony Giunta had 13 saves.
Abington Heights 14, Wilkes-Barre Area 4: At Wolfpack Stadium, Evan Davis had five goals and one assist, while Gavin Anders and Logan Fedorchek each had two goals to lead Abington Heights. Anders added four assists while Fedorchek had two. Rodman Azar, Gavin Lindsay, Thatcher Loss and Kellen McHugh each had a goal and assist.
Liam Contreras scored one goal. Brody Reh led Wilkes-Barre Area with two goals and an assist. Ryan Tayler and Xavier Little each had a goal.
Conner Losito and Jimmy Gryskewicz each had an assist. Boys track and field Hazleton Area 103, Berwick 48: At Berwick, the Cougars won 11 of the events Wednesday as Hazleton Area picked up the WVC win. Carlos Otero won both of the distance events, taking the 1,600 (5:11) and 3,200 (11:42).
For Berwick, Christopher Bowman was first in the discus (114-5) and javelin (145-0). Girls track and field Hazleton Area 118, Berwick 32: At Berwick, 12 different athletes won events to lift Hazleton Area to the conference victory. Gabriella Bredbenner was the lone Cougar with two wins, tops in the 200 (27.
5) and 400 (61.5). Gianna Culpepper and Grace Robbins picked up Berwick’s lone wins.
