Marty Deeks was one of the most beloved agents on NCIS: Los Angeles and would make the perfect candidate to return to the franchise but Eric Christian Olsen, the actor who plays him, says he won't be back

After running for more than two decades, the beloved NCIS franchise has seen some significant character losses over the years and when NCIS: Los Angeles concluded in 2023 fans were forced to wave goodbye to some of their favorite agents. One particularly beloved character included Marty Deeks, one of the best NCIS: Los Angeles agents that fans would still love to see return to the franchise. Deeks, played by Eric Christian Olsen, first entered the NCIS world as a guest star.

He started off as an undercover agent attempting to infiltrate a drug smuggling ring that crossed paths with agent Sam Hanna in season one. However, it wasn't belong until he became a firm favorite among fans and his transition into a series regular by season two was a no-brainer. Deeks laidbike vibe and sarcastic jokes saw him fitting in perfectly with the rest of the team as he became an official NCIS investigator.

He brought a light-hearted attitude that provided comedic relief during some of the darker cases the show worked on and transformed the tone of the show. His relationship with Kensi, played by Daniela Ruah, also became one of the most popular romances of the entire series and their wedding day in season 10 is still one of the most romantic moments on the show. Deeks would be a perfect candidate to return to the franchise, especially as he has already proved that he could fit into one of the other shows.

Deeks appeared in NCIS's highly anticipated three-way crossover that involved NCIS, Los Angeles, and Hawai'i, working well with the other teams and demonstrating his versatility. However, fans who are eager to see Deeks make a comeback in the franchise are likely to be disappointed as there is one major problem. Olsen has confirmed that he will not return to NCIS.

Last year, the actor told TV line that he doesn't intend to reprise the role. However, he did admit to missing his fellow cast members. "I actively miss Todd, and I was texting with Renee [Felice Smith] this morning, and I see Daniela all the time.

.." Despite this, Olsen said the desire to return to the franchise is "not so much" there.

Instead, he is focused on his current project - Matlock. Olsen is an executive producer on the CBS show, which first aired in 2024 and has been renewed for more seasons. This means that it's unfortunately unlikely fans will get to see the return of Deeks to NCIS.
