ICOPD, Westmoreland entity get Governor's Awards

State honors Indiana County planners, others for local government excellence Pennsylvania municipalities and local government officials were recognized Wednesday for their commitment to serving residents during the 29th annual Governor’s Awards for Local Government Excellence. Among the honorees were the Indiana County Office of Planning and Development, recognized for its health and wellness initiatives, and the Westmoreland County Department of Planning and Development, honored for intergovernmental cooperation. In total, the state recognized three counties, six municipalities, one organization and nine individuals from across the commonwealth.

work passionately to ‘get stuff done’ by improving public services and making their communities better,” said Gov. Josh Shapiro. “Their collective work has made a difference in the health, safety and quality of life of families and individuals across Pennsylvania.

” The ceremony coincided with Pennsylvania Local Government Day, which highlights the importance of strong, independent and active local government and celebrates the contributions of residents who serve their communities. “In this moment — when it feels like the very concept of public service is under attack — it’s important to celebrate the dedicated individuals who are working, day in and day out, at the local level to make Pennsylvania’s communities safer, healthier and more vibrant,” said Lt. Gov.
