Fern Hollow Nature Center Celebrate Earth Day this year by joining us to spring clean at Fern Hollow. All ages are invited to this all-hands-on-deck event on April 26 from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Tasks such as gardening, weeding, painting and cleaning are on the to do list.
Students, scouts, seniors and entire families are encouraged to attend. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children 5 and under with their caregivers are invited to explore local parks with educator Kara O’Neill on select Mondays this spring and summer.
The hour-long Nature and Nurture programs include a short kid-friendly hike, a nature-themed story and a simple craft. Hikes are scheduled for April 28, May 19, June 23, July 28, and August 18 from 10 to 11 am. Locations vary.
Designed to foster a love for the outdoors, Nature Night Out programs are offered on select Fridays at Fern Hollow Nature Center. Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Kristen Haas ensures that each session has the perfect blend of instruction, exploration, discovery and free play. The drop-off program is for children ages 5 to 10 and occurs on April 25, May 23, June 27, July 25, and August 29 from 6 to 9 p.

Citations to be issued Leetsdale police will begin issuing parking citations for blocking roads during street sweeping starting the first week of May. Police Chief Dan Raible said officers have issued warnings throughout April, the first month of the service. Street sweeping takes place Wednesdays and Thursdays through October.
There are signs along borough streets with street sweeping times. The fine is $25. Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day Laughlin Children’s Center is hosting a CARE Workshop in honor of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day on May 8 from 9 a.

This educational opportunity, designed for adults who care for children, aims to provide valuable insights and resources and support children’s mental health. From 1-2:30 p.m.

The Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement workshop includes an educational component and active practice for general use by adults who interact with children of all ages in various life settings. The workshop is designed to build a stronger connection with children through practical techniques such as Praise, Paraphrase, and Point Out. Participants also learn about effective commands and selective ignoring.
Attendees can participate in informative sessions led by children’s mental health experts from Laughlin Children’s Center and connect with other caregivers and professionals who support children’s mental health. The workshop is eligible for Act 48 hours. Bring Your PPID number for record-keeping.

Sweetwater Center for the Arts Registration is open for summer camps at Sweetwater Center for the Arts. Eleven weeks of classes are offered for ages 4 to 14 in 2D, 3D and culinary arts. Master Classes return April 25 with Capturing the Light with Timothy Horn Master Class. Students should have painted in oils enough to be comfortable working with the medium and should have painted on their own with their outdoor easel and be comfortable with the setup. The primary focus will be to convey the sense of light in paintings by identifying, clarifying and establishing proper value relationships.
