Chenyue, a 20-year-old Deaf-Mute student from China, defended her appearance amid online remarks and criticism over her looks. Based in Sichuan province in southwestern China, the popular girl with a huge follower count responded to online users, who had attributed her flawless beauty to artificial intelligence.
According to the South China Morning Post, Chenyue is famous on mainland social media for sharing her fashion insights. The matter gained internet attention after Chenyue posted a video on April 17. In the clip which attracted great traction, the girl was marching at a school event in China, appearing in a white wedding dress with her long hair flowing perfectly while she held a school sign in her hands.
While the video warmed the hearts of her followers, a section of users weren’t too pleased and claimed she resembled an ‘AI face’ and was ‘unnaturally beautiful’. As per the SCMP report, Chenyue made a response to the online comments and said her makeup during the school event may have influenced the remarks that came her way. While the Deaf-Mute girl admitted she had undergone minor cosmetic procedures for double eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and cheek fillers apart from a hair transplant, she claimed she never edits her photographs posted online.
The girl also said her friends were surprised by no visible changes in her appearance despite the surgical tweaks. ‘Thank you all for your attention. It is the support and encouragement from my friends and family that gives me the courage to keep going,’ Chenyue posted a thank you note to her followers on April 22 after many came out in support of her following the viral controversy on Chinese social media.
‘As a deaf-mute person, Chenyue had to work harder than others to study fine arts. I really admire her,’ an online user said, before another joined in the support and commented, ‘She reminds me of a young Fan Bingbing. They both have that dignified and graceful presence.
’ A third asked, ‘Is there anything wrong with being beautiful? Everyone has the right to pursue beauty.’.
