Andoni Iraola looks set to stay at Bournemouth amid Tottenham transfer links Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a “rollercoaster” season under Ange Postecoglou. The Spurs fans have gone through all sorts of emotions while watching their team play. The Lilywhites are on the way to their worst ever Premier League finish this season.
But at the same time, Ange’s men are also in the Europa League semi-finals. The North London club have a solid chance of ending their trophy drought this season. Ange Postecoglou has come under the media spotlight in recent weeks.
The Tottenham boss has not managed to escape criticism for the way his team has played and the question marks regarding his future still loom large at N17. However, the Australian managed to beat all odds and win against Eintracht Frankfurt, leading Spurs to their first European semi-final in six years. The North London club put out a brilliant performance against the German club away from home.
Ange’s men lost their Premier League game against Wolves on Sunday, which led many fans to question if the 59-year-old was the right man to lead Tottenham forward. Well, the ex-Celtic boss replied with a statement win on Thursday that helped the Lilywhites move one step closer to winning a major trophy. Andoni Iraola snubs Tottenham to stay at Bournemouth It is an open secret that Tottenham are looking at managerial replacements in case the Lilywhites decide to sack Ange Postecoglou.
Daniel Levy had given an ultimatum to the Aussie that he would only keep his job at N17 if Spurs managed to win the Europa League this season. Well, the North London club have moved one step closer in achieving that as they progressed through to the semi-finals of the competition on Thursday. However, the Lilywhites have a shortlist of managers ready that are considered for the job at N17.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is among the few that are being considered by Daniel Levy. But Tottenham have now received a blow in their chances to land the Cherries manager in the summer. When asked about an update regarding the managerial links, renowned journalist Duncan Castles said on The Transfers Podcast , “Interestingly, my guidance on this is that Tottenham’s approaches to Iraola have been rebuffed by the manager.
He has been invited and told to speak to them about that position, and has actually declined to do so” Castles added, “And instead, he has been having conversations with Bournemouth, informal conversations with Bournemouth for several weeks now, about not only continuing on his current contract, but signing a new contract to extend there.” The English journalist suggested that Iraola has no plans on leaving Bournemouth for Tottenham and plans on being at Vitality Stadium next season to continue his project. Iraola has also started new contract talks at Bournemouth and has rebuffed Spurs’ approaches to stay at south coast for the time being.
Now, Daniel Levy will have to act quick in regards to making a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future. The Tottenham chairman cannot afford to wait till the summer as it might get too late and the Lilywhites might miss out on other managerial targets as well if they decide to sack Big Ange. With the club moving a step closer to ending the 17-year long wait of winning a major trophy under Ange Postecoglou, should Daniel Levy give the 59-year-old a chance to see out this season, or look for other managers already? It is a tough question to answer and the fans can only hope that the situation is handled swiftly by Levy and the club.
