Infosys has dismissed 240 entry-level employees after repeated failures in internal assessments, echoing a similar move in February. The company, however, is offering support through paid notice, training, accommodation, and career transition programmes to assist those affected.

Infosys has terminated 240 entry-level employees who failed to clear internal assessment tests despite multiple support measures, the company confirmed in official emails sent to affected individuals. The dismissals follow an earlier round of over 300 layoffs in February, continuing the IT giant's effort to uphold quality standards in its training pipeline. The impacted individuals, hired as System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers, could not meet the criteria laid out in the firm’s ‘Generic Foundation Training Programme’.

Infosys stated that the employees were given extra preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, mock assessments, and three full assessment attempts, yet were unable to qualify. Support Measures Announced To ease the transition, Infosys is offering a one-month ex-gratia payout, travel allowance, free accommodation at its Mysore campus, and professional outplacement services. In a termination email accessed by various outlets, Infosys wrote: “As you explore opportunities outside of Infosys, we have planned professional outplacement services to help you on that journey.

We also wish to offer you another career pathway, by taking an Infosys-sponsored external training to prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry.” The company is also extending free upskilling opportunities via partners NIIT and UpGrad, offering two pathways: A 12-week training programme for potential roles in the Business Process Management (BPM) industry.A 24-week training programme focused on Information Technology fundamentals, for those seeking to continue in IT.

Additional Transition Support As per the official support document shared with affected employees, Infosys is providing: Ex-gratia: One month’s salary.Outplacement assistance: Career support services.Learning options: Choice between BPM and IT-focused upskilling courses.

Logistics: Transport from Mysore to Bengaluru or to their hometown, plus on-campus accommodation.Counselling: Access to mental health support. These measures are applicable to both the current batch and those who were laid off in February.

Infosys’s move reflects growing scrutiny on training outcomes amid increasing demand for digital-ready talent. The Indian IT sector is under pressure to maintain high-quality deliverables while adjusting to evolving skill expectations from global clients. In this context, rigorous internal assessments have become standard at firms like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro.

Analysts note that while layoffs for non-performance are not new, the accompanying support packages and re-skilling pathways mark a shift towards more humane and structured transitions.
