Meta has launched a new mobile app called Edits, designed to streamline video creation for users on both Android and iOS. The app allows users to record, edit, and export videos—including Instagram Reels—directly from their smartphones, offering an all-in-one solution that eliminates the need for multiple apps. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Edits aims to provide powerful creative tools not just for Instagram users, but for video creators across platforms, reflecting Meta’s continued push to support content creation in an increasingly competitive digital landscape.
A post shared by Instagram’s @Creators (@creators) Meta’s new Edits app is a standalone video editing tool that works across platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, though users must log in with Instagram credentials. Unlike Instagram’s built-in tools, Edits offers a full suite of features tailored for mobile content creators. Users can record clips up to 10 minutes long, use a timeline-based editor to trim, add transitions, visual effects, and green screen backgrounds, and export watermark-free videos.
The app also provides performance metrics like skip rates to help users analyze viewer engagement and improve their content strategy. Once inside, users can either record video directly in the app or import clips from their gallery to edit.
The timeline editor allows for trimming, rearranging clips, adjusting audio, and applying visual effects. Finished videos can be exported and shared across various platforms. Meta says Edits is part of its broader push to equip creators with powerful in-house tools, reducing reliance on third-party editing apps.

Edits is available for free on the App Store and Google Play Store, with no subscription required and all current features accessible at no cost.
Meta has not yet confirmed if any future features will be monetized or placed behind a paywall..
