LAHORE - Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday called on Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at the party’s headquarters in Mansoora, where the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on national security, including escalating tensions with India, and ongoing issues in Kashmir and Palestine. JI Vice Emir Liaqat Baloch was also present at the meeting. The interior minister briefed the JI leadership on key decisions made during the recent National Security Council (NSC) meeting and conveyed the government’s position on the evolving regional situation.
He emphasised the state’s commitment to national unity and security amid rising cross-border provocations. Rehman, in response, urged a robust and calculated response to India’s “aggressive and irrational actions,” particularly the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. “The entire nation is united in defending Pakistan’s interests,” he said, adding, “The government must respond with strategic foresight and preserve national consensus.
” PM Shehbaz likely to unveil worker-friendly package on Labour Day The JI chief reiterated his party’s long-standing support for the Kashmiri and Palestinian causes, stating, “Jamaat-e-Islami has always adopted a principled and courageous stance on national issues.” He criticised the government’s handling of the recent Gaza Million March in Islamabad, calling attempts to block the demonstration “unjustified and disrespectful to the sentiments of Pakistanis and the broader Muslim Ummah”. In turn, Naqvi acknowledged the importance of JI’s peaceful protest, saying it was “commendable and conducted with dignity”.
He contrasted it with violent demonstrations by other political factions that sometimes necessitate government intervention. “Peaceful and organised protests, like those by Jamaat-e-Islami, are part of a healthy democracy and deserve space,” he said. On India, Naqvi said New Delhi was actively attempting to destabilise the region through “provocation and conspiracy”.
He reassured that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and that political forces are aligned against external threats. Maryam Nawaz reaffirms support for army amid border tensions with India Tags: interior minister briefs ji emir.
