Ireland's response to climate change

featured-image

As we are all aware there was a major UN report on climate change published during the week: Major climate changes now inevitable and irreversible, stark UN report says IPCC report says climate change is ‘widespread, rapid, and intensifying’ www.irishtimes.com The stark report shows that no country, including Ireland will be spared the impact of climate change.

It's coming our way.. While some, mainly older members of society in my experience, say things like "It doesn't matter what we do, we're so small compared to everyone else.

If we do nothing and everyone else does we'll be fine and if we do lots ans everyone else does nothing, we're still screwed", or "No one can change the climate execpt dor the man above" (Thank you MHR) the vast majority of us know that the above is rubbish. In order to mitigate the more extreme elements of climate change we need to as a country and as individuals change how we live. The EU has released its Green Deal policy document A European Green Deal with the majority of the changes required being funded through the Just Transition Fund.

European Just Transition Fund The Just Transition Fund is the key tool to support the territories most affected by social and economic impacts of the transition towards climate neutrality. eufunds.ie But as a country, on a political level this is going to be a major challenge and will impact every part of policy decision making from planning, to construction, to transport, to agriculture, employment law, taxes, etc etc.

. We are also going to see changes in things such as international travel and personal shopping habits on high envirnomental impact products such as fashion and even diets (reduction in meat consumption) So just as there is a thread on Ireland's response to the virus, the aim of this thread to look at the Govts reponse to climate change and it's impact on us as citizens, and as people (not to mention our kids and the following generations) My own thoughts on it is that the virus is going to look like a walk in the park by the time the true impact of climate change will have on us, esp if the Atlantic currents shut down. Atlantic currents weaken, signalling weather changes The Atlantic Ocean's current system, an engine of the Northern Hemisphere's climate, could be weakening to such an extent that it could soon bring big changes to the world's weather, a scientific study has found.

www.rte.ie What are your thoughts on Irelands response so far? Can it be improved? not eating bugs, not living in a pod, not owning nothing and being happy.

All things being equal it would be good if the quality of meat was improved and was more based on grass fed instead of grain fed where prices would rise but this push to veganism is just to make money for capitalists that have invested in high tech fake food. Ireland should be championing its grass fed product silverharp said: not eating bugs, not living in a pod, not owning nothing and being happy. It does, but good luck with the grass feeding model if we have the climate of Newfoundland. But but but but but but, 5G, microchips, Rocketfella, natural cycle, Globalizobationing, new world order, the great reset, turn it off and turn it back on again..

.. Well as an example of the impact this could have.

.. If Ireland climate was to become more like Brittany, while the rest of the world experienced now severe changes, with increasing climate migration and refugees, how long do you think it would be before Ireland became a desirable place to live, with our consent or not.

.. These 6 countries are most likely to survive a climate change-caused societal collapse If you have ever considered your zombie apocalypse survival plan, you've almost certainly concluded that the best place to be to survive the end-of-the-world event is somewhere isolated, and preferably surrounded by water.

As it turns out, science...

.. Yes, I mentioned you in the OP, elderly religious types.

That debate has been had and science disproved your "beliefs". This thread isn't to debate whether climate change is happening or not, it is. This thread is to discuss how the Irish govt is responding to the threat of climate change.

. Do stuff that have benefits in and of themselves, not building in flood plains, nobody wants to commute more than they need to, no one wants to may more for energy or food than they need to. People want clean water, good air, no pollution going in the water.

Increase food security here, Ireland should ban food imports of out of season food for example. Green beans from South America GTFO! Marcos the black said: All we need is another Trump like president to look our way and get ideas..

.. You think that if Ireland isn't badly impacted by climate change and other areas are that there won't be the potential for conflict? Does climate change cause armed conflict? As global temperatures climb, the risk of armed conflict is expected to increase substantially, according to experts across several fields.

.. No, I think calling on the ghost of Trump is loony, especially seeing as he was a "Climate Change Denier".

.. Personally? Planted about 60 trees, introduced a wild section into the garden, took out the grass and planted clover for bees in the rest etc etc.

.. Plus I have always been with Airtricity, solar panels, hybrid car etc .

. Probably my biggest impact was international travel..

.. Ach, we did that many years ago in Wexford and we don't bang on about it.

How many cars are outside your house? You see, when it comes to carbon, that is the problem. And boasting about not travelling for almost 2 years, well most of the world hasn't travelled for almost two years. You really do talk like a politician.

PS - When we moved to Wexford we had three acorns which we started off in yoghurt cartons and then planted outside, they were 7 foot tall when we sold the place, we planted fruit trees, two Monkey Puzzles and several Maples. What I am saying is, we all do our bit, yet we still get preached to and huge carbon taxes are thrown at us, when it's big business are the real culprits, seemingly call centres create a huge amount of carbon, riddle me that one..
