SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- Happy Thursday, Utah! Our slightly unsettled weather pattern will continue into the afternoon for Northern Utah as a moist southwest flow remains in place. Isolated storms remain a threat, mostly from western Juab County up into Uinta County, thanks to our airmass and with the afternoon sun cranking up the heat a little bit. A few storms that flare up this afternoon will drift northeas and any active weather should stay north of I-70.
Temperatures will be a touch cooler this afternoon than what we saw yesterday, thanks to the passing trough to the north. Around the Wasatch Front and up in Cache Valley, you’ll notice temperatures about 5 degrees cooler than yesterday. In southern Utah, you're running with roughly the same temperatures as the past few days.
It'll shape up to be another gorgeous day for those areas. Heading into Friday, high pressure moves in and clears out most of the moisture, especially as a strong southerly flow strengthens as an approaching trough stirs up warmer air into the state. Temperatures up north will warm up from Thursday's highs by a good 5 degrees over today.
Southern Utah? Not much impact aside from increasing winds. Winds will be elevated into the weekend statewide with the strongest winds over southwest Utah. Generally, winds of 15-25 mph are anticipated in those areas Friday afternoon through Saturday with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Over the weekend, the low-pressure system to the west moves eastward and it drifts east into the Great Basin through the weekend, weakening as it moves through. For now, plan on active weather in Utah on Sunday and Monday with scattered valley and mountain snow. Temperatures will tumble a good 10-15 degrees from where they were on Saturday, statewide.
