Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Sunday. Makama said intelligence sources informed him that armed assailants ambushed villagers who had gone to fetch firewood at Bokko-Ghide/Ngoshe bush in Gwoza LGA.

The number of victims abducted in the attack remains unclear. However, troops of Operation Hadin Kai visited the scene and evacuated six fatally injured victims to the General Hospital Gwoza, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor. “The deceased were identified as Ibrahim Kursu (45), Malam Ahmadu (50), Abba Zake (35), Hawwala Zake (40), Bukar Umaru (38), and Ishaku Naga (50), all from Pulka, Gwoza LGA.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that nine people were initially involved in the firewood collection. Three others – Bukar Alhaji (42), Wada Maina (50), and Adamu Idrissa – managed to escape into nearby bushes during the attack and have since safely returned to their families,” Makama said.
