Rhodes added how Cena had been out of touch with reality, before going on to lambast Cena with an array of insults. WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes didn’t hold back when standing face-to-face with John Cena, as he went on to roast the ‘overrated’ 16-time champion ruthlessly on Friday Night Smackdown. Ahead of their blockbuster bout, Rhodes and Cena met inside the ropes one last time at the final SmackDown before the ultimate event, where both wrestlers engaged in a heated battle of words.
Rhodes began the segment by talking about how the WWE had changed over the years, and it wasn’t John Cena’s backyard anymore. “This is a different WWE John! And when this was your WWE, I worshipped you, they [fans] worshipped you," he said. Taking a jibe at the 16-time WWE champion, Rhodes described John as an overrated star who was well past his time.
“You called me underwhelming. Guess what, you are overrated," he said on live television. “And by god, John Cena.
It is 2025, and you still can’t wrestle!" Rhodes concluded. Rhodes added how Cena had been out of touch with reality, before going on to lambast Cena with an array of insults. “You’re out of time.
Your face is melting wax, you got a stack of dimes for a neck, spindly a** legs, you’re paler than Sting," Rhodes added angrily. Rhodes is set to face the retiring John Cena at WrestleMania 41 this coming weekend, in what is touted to be the Past facing off against the Present and Future of the WWE. Cena, for the first time ever in his tenure, will be heading into the bout as a heel, with history on the line.
In an unprecedented turn of events, the 16-time champion turned rogue at the 2025 Elimination Chamber, where he aligned himself with The Rock before laying a beatdown on Rhodes. Now, both Cena and Rhodes will have the opportunity to bring this heated feud to an end at the grandest stage of them all. They will face off on Night 2 of WrestleMania 41 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Cena and Rhodes will be closing the show on April 20 (April 21 in India)..
