FLINT TWP, MI - There’s a new Japanese restaurant in Genesee County. Kabuki Japanese Restaurant, located at 4018 Corunna Road at the former Badawest in Flint Township, opened its doors last month. While initially opening as takeout-only, the restaurant is now open for dining.
“My husband and I worked at Sagano’s and he was a chef and people loved his food over there,” said Ashley Parker, co-owner and wife of owner Salman Fnu. “So we wanted to get our own place going and bring our followers with us.” Japanese food is the focus of the restaurant, which also has vegetarian and halal options.
“It’s something different,” Parker said. “We want a Japanese place that’s reasonably priced. And the food isn’t cooked in front of you.
It’s more intimate, you can sit with your family and you’re not rushed out the door.” Top-selling items include the popular Sushi Yummy Roll, and customers can enjoy a chicken lunch special for just $11.50, available Monday through Friday from 11 a.
m. to 2 p.m.
The meal comes with soup or salad, fresh vegetables, noodles, and steamed rice -- with options to upgrade to fried rice for an additional $1.50 or choose chicken and steak for $15.50.
“We use a lot of teriyaki on our chicken and salmon, it’s not just garlic butter,” Parker said. “It’s a different style.” The Bento Box is a customer favorite, packed with variety and flavor.
Each box includes gyoza, a spring roll, four pieces of California roll, mixed vegetables, miso soup, fried rice, and your choice of meat -- chicken, steak, shrimp, or salmon. Prices start at $17.50 for chicken or salmon, and $18.
50 for steak or shrimp. You can also substitute noodles for fried rice for just $1.50 more.
Guests can try one of the Hibachi Dinners, cooked on a traditional Japanese teppanyaki grill. Each meal is served with clear soup, house salad, white rice, noodles, and vegetables. You can also upgrade to fried rice for just $1.
50. Parker enjoys working in the restaurant industry. “I love meeting new people,” she said.
“I’m proud to work here knowing we serve different food.” After each customer is finished with their meal, Fnu asks them about their experience. “We’re willing to accept any suggestions people have,” Parker said.
At the back of the restaurant, guests can rent a private space for parties of up to 30 people, complete with access to a projector screen. Kabuki brings a fresh and exciting taste of Japanese cuisine to Genesee County. Whether you’re craving sushi, hibachi, or a hearty bento box, it’s a spot worth checking out.
