Good Morning Britain sparked backlash from viewers after they claimed Sir Keir Starmer is facing mounting pressure to back the Supreme Court ruling on gender definition. The UK's highest court last week confirmed that the definition of a woman in equality law is based on biological sex. This means that only people who are born female should be protected from discrimination as a woman under the Act in a landmark ruling.
On Monday's (April 21) instalment of Good Morning Britain, correspondent Louisa James confirmed that the prime minister was yet to directly speak on the new ruling as he has been on holiday. "There has also been a lot of anger from those who say the decision has left trans people scared and confused about their rights," Louisa explained. "There were demonstrations in London and elsewhere over the weekend.
" Louisa revealed that police are investigating criminal damage to seven statues, which home secretary Yvette Cooper has branded as "disgraceful". The report sparked fury amongst viewers as they questioned why this was being discussed on Good Morning Britain. "He doesn't need to back it.
It's a binding ruling over a definition in law. That's it," wrote one fan as another agreed: "Makes no difference what this fella says the courts ruling is final and law." A third fumed: "Unlike the US President the PM will obviously respect all Supreme Court decisions.
Your presenter bias makes the programme unwatchable." Others appeared to call out the Labour leader for not responding yet, with one declaring: "Grow a spine please, PM." A second added: "He’s so keen on following the law he has no choice.
