SAN DIEGO (KUSI)- April 15th annually celebrates Jackie Robinson Day around Major League Baseball. Also, with the San Diego Padres in tow and on board with 2025 Breaking Barriers. "We are going to give out in partnership with SDG&E and the Masons we are going to give out ten, ten thousand dollar scholarships to give out scholarships to underserved communities in San Diego.

That our breaking barriers in there life they have written an essay regarding the barriers they have already broken and the barriers they continue to break. Many of these students are going to be first time college students in their families. Padres CEO Erik Greupner said.



"We know about Jackie Robinson great story, but we don't talk about the other sixteen. They were black and Latin players as well and right after Jackie their was a player named Larry Doby. The list goes on and one until 1959.

" Frank Jordan, Negro League Coordinator said. "I feel like as a black woman he's a very important person, he inspires me especially because I play sports and he laid down the foundation for me to do that." Aliya Courtney San Diego High Junior said.

"Being here in this lecture and presentation was really cool learning about people's stories and the struggles that they went through and able to pick themselves up from it." Malachi Diaz San Diego High Freshman said."Its so cool on Jackie Robinson Day that the Padres honor his legend his experience and train it into kids in high school who may not know the story.

The whole notion of breaking barriers is real, we all have to do it. Life is going to throw a curveball at somebody." Former San Diego Chargers Placekicker Rolf Benirschke said.
